I guess our so-called president didn't get the memo that U.S troops are not to be deployed to U.S. cities. He has disgraced our nation and our once proud military. U.S. Navy veteran HM2 1967-1969

Really strong articel on the Posse Comitatus tensions we're seeing play out. The framing around oath to Constitution vs deployment orders creates a real dilemma for service members that gets overlooked in most coverage. I worked with some vets who struggled with similar questions around mission parameters and the line gets especially murky when you're operating under political pressure rather than clear security objectives. The polling data showing public opposition is probly gonna matter more than people realize since military legitimacy depends heavily on public trust.

Shout out to Amanda Carpenter, from whom I first learned about the NotTheMission drive. A great idea.

Having served in the NC Army National Guard, I remember the oath that I swore to defend the people and the Constitution. Marines, Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen still continue this tradition, and have kept faith overall.

Sadly, however, the so-called 'commander-in-chief' now residing in 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, has consistently violated his oath to the Constitution on a daily basis.

I still remember the time when he stole boxes of classified documents, taking them to Mar-a-Lago, no doubt sending screenshots of them to putin. Several of these documents are still missing.

If he had the Constitution among the documents, he would have flushed it down his golden toilet 🚽.

I will end here.

"We will be cheering hard for our team today, as always. But we also know that all of us are ultimately on one team. We are all Americans, always stronger united than divided. And our military serves all of us, not some of us. It must always be that way."

I felt so patriotic at the Army-AF game we attended over a year ago.

Our crowd of supporters all felt confident that AF would win, but boy did we ever get tossed. The army fans were celebratory but not swaggering, and we were humbled and applauded their victory.

That's just good sportsmanship, from a respectful rivalry of equals.

Such an important message! Unfortunately the commander in chief received an education that did not include covering the American constitution.

No truer words ever said. I wish we could broadcast this message to the world to remind everyone what is important and what is at stake. (Oh—BTW—Go Navy!)

Thanks so much for this post and for what you are doing. I worked on civmil issues in Congress for many years and am deeply worried about the violations of professional and legal boundaries ongoing. Im excited about this new project at PD and will stay informed!

I despair that our military, any branch of it, will understand their oath and stand against the Russian takeover of our very country (yes, drones, cells, embedded pregnant women for the purpose, even FSB…) by P2025, WH, Congress, and billionaires.

The plans to shut down our Internet (believe it, techies are making Plan B), control ALL media (already in effect, largely), and control our behavior to our very homes, phones, health, and education have been put in place already.

Will the military save The Constitution? I don’t feel the hope.

All on the same team. Protect your country from all it's enemies. Do not confuse them with your neighbours, that's why you have police forces for crimes within the country.

Agreed. Great article! Thanks. From an old Navy Corpsman (71-75) who was with India 3/9, 3rd MarDiv, for a year. The other three at Naval Hospitals, in the operating room. GO NAVY!!!!

Disagree 100%. The President has a duty to protect the homeland against enemies foreign and domestic. Where state and local governments have abdicated their duty to maintain law and order and protect the citizenry, sending in the National Guard is entirely appropriate. Furthermore, soldiers don’t get to pick and choose what they “signed up for.”

Yet, he himself and his administration seem to be taking on the role of the enemy within. In fact, isn't it true the US voters themselves, those who voted a 34-count felon to run our country, committed one of the worst indiscretions against the brave men and women of our Armed Forces - those who sacrificed and served to protect our democracy - by electing a criminal? What is occurring is an abuse of our National Guard. The current administration encourages hate and division, not unity and love for our country and their fellow humans -- regardless of citizenship status. Therein lies the ROOT of the problem. Therein lies the enemy of the American people in our White House.
