Thank you for your story. It is reassuring that you uphold the high standards of law enforcement, and by sharing your story, perhaps others will express their agreement, and together, you will be the example we need to restore trust. On, Wisconsin!
Thank you for this piece. Yes we should try to distance ourselves as much as possible from Nazi Germany, but alas, this last week has caused me to have grave doubts we are not caught in that same trap.
Perhaps in the future you could contemplate the Christian atrocities against Christians instead of falling for the crutch of using the Jews and what happened to them specifically because they were the Jews by a previously civilized Nation
Remember the war that began when Holland proclaimed that Spain could not read
Or the plethora of civilizational crashdowns that Christianity brought upon itself can be drawn upon as reference points for civilization instead of misappropriating a specific crime against humanity that occurred as the Nazi third Reich epitomized during the Holocaust against the Jews
It seems to me that it is the relative parallels of 1) the scapegoating of our national “problems” on immigrants, and 2) the shroud of secrecy around private detention centers and secure international deportation prisons, that is the source of comparison. Along with stronger familiarity with mid 20thc history.
I am curious what the value of the shift to alternate comparisons is, in your opinion? Thank you.
The masked police concern me and I haven't dove in yet but heard that deportations were higher under Obama without the kayfabe that the sheriff wrote about that puts distance versus trust and to me conditions the public for the normalization of that type of policing
American overreach can be pointed to repeatedly or throughout Civilization by civilizations upon others
Using the specific gather up and eliminate the Jews where they are left or right religious or agnostic was a specific phenomenon that happened under Nazi Germany that has been misappropriated repeatedly and after the 7th when the gates of hell were opened and all sympathy vaporized My clarity has increased to call for accuracy in verbiage instead of everyone everywhere using Nazi for descriptives which diluted what happened with the so-called phony phallustinians protesting using Anne Frank posters when it's Islam on display which has embraced its role in the red green alliance to bring down civilization
When the Japanese were gathered that was unjust but I only recently learned that there were elements within that were doing shenanigans but proportionally to today what Islam is we are infiltrated everywhere resulting in Islamic deflectionism which lacks proportion when the Japanese incarceration was disproportionate...
I love sub stack and and commendations for reasonable and adult conversations
On the flip side we were afflicted with a sheriff in Hennepin county that was caught in his overturned truck with edibles at 2:00 a.m. and a BAC that was way over the limit and the system covered for him forever and when it finally was revealed he was anti-black anti-jewish anti-gay anti-christian and a general piece of shit so the beauty of America is revealing our intolerance for sanctimony and precision in mission and language
I agree with you that work should be done in utilizing and educating our populace about alternate historical precedents. I acknowledge your reasons, and have observed that the “Nazi” comparison seems to fully undermine the ability to genuinely discuss the issues at hand across a spectrum of people, as many feel it is misappropriated. Just a non-starter for too many to be useful, I suppose. However, sadly, it is likely the only historical example of the move to authoritarianism that most Americans have presumably been educated about in any significant way.
For a taste of History look up the rationing rules and propaganda that was imposed during world war II on Americans amongst many variations on power tripping governments
On top of the segregation union busting Indian treaty breaking, depressions and what Wilson did to suppress truth and enable White supremacism make up the stew of what has the potential to be ongoingly the greatest country
I'm intolerant of sanctimony hypocrisy and intolerance one nation under God with liberty and justice for all
I am not with you on this. I am not in support of any generalized profiling or scapegoating of any immigrant group.
The video you linked is not something I would present as evidence of the legitimacy of any such profiling and scapegoating of people of Arab descent or Islamic belief. This is anti-Islamic propaganda.
I started studying German history before WW2 in 2015 because I began to recognize the similarities between the build-up then and here in the US now (or back then).
Yes I read They Thought They Were Free, and it was a startling look at how one of the previously greatest areas in the world went from normal to complacent, captured and wicked.
Think this is fascism? Wait til they've deported/arrested all the illegals and need bodies to fill those concentration camps they're building all over. THEN you'll see fascism!
Thank you for sharing your expert perspective. I think it is an important nuance, as many who reflexively support Trump, also are typically very supportive of our law enforcement, but may not be likely to recognize the significant consequences that you do. We need a lot more trust and reliance on our experts in general, imho.
My general motto is expect nothing and I'm never disappointed and as an American I'm proud to be an American with all that it offers, policing to me has been incredibly good to me and I see and call out in justices often with last year a woman being killed in her own home when she rebuked a white cop in her own home in the name of Jesus out of nowhere after she called the police to investigate burglars, Daniel shaver in Arizona was executed in a ritual humiliation ceremony and the cop who did the murder had Nazi stuff on his gun and is still employed, George Floyd overdosed and officer chauvin is still in jail and evidence was suppressed in his case putting innocent people in prison previous to that Hennepin county or Minneapolis had paid out close to 20 million in police brutality claims.
We are plagued with a Marxist prosecuting attorney who releases with low bail incessantly and the populace supports it
I'd say be more skeptical and find more reliable and trustworthy folks to put in office but you said it in another way
This post needs to be shared - I am putting it on Linked In. The author diplomatically says the tactics of ICE seem to be "designed to alienate citizens". I suggest they are designed to INTIMIDATE and strike fear in both legal and illegal people. There is a consistent attitude in this administration that to cross it is to risk its wrath.
That is NO way to run a government - on the contrary, it is exactly what its supports claimed the Democrats were on the road to doing. Trump's supporters seem to take great glee in the suffering of anyone who disagrees with them.
I understand that are a number of their opponents who share the same sick outlook - and no matter who embraces it, they are wrong; they contribute to an unhealthy society, and actually threaten its existence.
Trust me, I know. The National Guard was sent into Portland cause a small handful of protesters were pocketing the ICE headquarters. It's total bullshit.
Protesters occupied those buildings doing immense damage under Biden it's not normal to allow that in a civilization to enable terroristic Street protests.
Andy Ngo has been attacked by them, hospitalized and still continues to report on the Trantifa anarchist trash that are being handled finally. Imagine if all these broke cities had been charging protesters with disturbing the peace as if bullhorns being yelled through and drums being beat 10 hours a day in American cities is tolerable? The national debt could have been paid off by now but enabling the intolerant has become normalized.
Does Portland have apps like San Francisco does to report piles of poo? The left has tainted Portland with toxicity and it's tolerance of the intolerable
All I can say is - wow! Thank you both for your service and your obvious dedication to maintaining law and order in a rational way. Also for your post - it’s good to be reminded of what ethical values existed and should continue to be respected!!
Thank you for your dedication to police work and doing it the right way. Unfortunately, you stated that you would talk to Trump again, "if he would listen". That's the problem right there. He doesn't listen. But keep up the goof work. It's appreciated.
This article needs a megaphone. The perception of law enforcement in our country of laws has become murky nowadays, and voices like yours need to be heard. Thank you for your story and past dedicated service.

Thank you for your perspective and experience. Police brutality is still police brutality. It's not helping us, but it is harming all of us

The pushback against immigration is against the illegal and specific rough trade of Islamic immigration that's been enabled https://youtu.be/ckmkXOQarMM?si=r2uJ_XDakOjFN89X

Your service and grace warm my heart. Thank you for explaining the complexity of protecting our communities. I love your photo.
Why aren't you arresting ICE goons for breaking the law?
Thank you for your lesson and for your career.
