I lied about my age and started washing dishes in an Italian family restaurant restaurant in Chicago 60 years ago last month. I retired as a university professor 13 years ago this month.
There are costs and (usually) benefits associated with everything we do or don't do in life. Sometimes the costs are front-loaded. I've always worried whether I did the right thing or made the correct choices as things unfold.
One choice that's always the correct one is the one that allows us to keep our self respect.
Thank you for your art and especially for your courage. Keep going. I still believe there are more people like us than those who seek to hate, harm, scare, destroy, and silence. We must be loud, strong, and united.
