Yes. I last ordered something from Amazon in January of this year. I even deleted any Amazon cookies from my computer. My goal is to make it through 2025 entirely without ordering a single thing from Bezos the Butt Kisser. To 2026 and beyond! 😉
I finally ended my Post subscription. I'm so sad. My dad was a Post journalist for many years, including the salad days when Katharine Graham and Ben Bradlee led. We always revered the paper as a leading light of the fourth estate, and understood that producing it requires hard work, courage, and adherence to rigorous ethical standards. I have every confidence in the integrity of newsroom reporters today, but you can see the Bezos-ordered pussyfooting quite clearly in the editorials and opinions. Anyway Bezos's public order for the opinion pages to publish only pieces that espouse "free markets" or "personal liberties" instantly eliminated the trust built over generations.
I canceled my Post sub (and Prime sub) a little over a year ago when it became clear that they were part of Trump's efforts to turn out the lights on our democracy. This morning, very sadly, I concluded that the New York Times will be my next cancelation. It hasn't been as blatant or upfront in its backsliding but their message is clear, illustrated today in another episode of Russ Douthat's - their resident medieval monk - front page interview piece "Interesting Times" in which he talks with Amy Barret - a key player in digging up the foundations of our democracy.
These are dangerous times, not interesting times. The pillars of American democracy, including the press, are slowly toppling in the face of the authoritarian onslaught. I don't have the economic, personal or political power to do very much, but I will not support those who are turning their backs on the threat we are facing.
Love the description of Douthat as "their resident medieval monk". 🤣 It's perfect. And I literally cannot stomach clicking on any of his "interesting times" (cough, cough) interviews or his regular columns.
How do you know that this isn’t Jeff Bezos true character; maybe Bezo’s isn’t a coward!Maybe he agrees with what Trump is doing, and we are finally seeing his true colors!!
I was glad at first that Bezos bought WAPO because of his deep pockets. I liked all of the opinion writers and the long journalism. But, I will not be renewing and, anyway, the loss of real news makes it a waste of clicks.
I've been a loyal WaPo subscriber for over forty years and have held on. But now, having lost so many wonderful writers and cartoonists, and seeing such watered-down writing, I'm finding a better sense of appreciation in reading the Guardian and even the South Floridian Sun-Sentinel! Ann Telnaes also now comes directly to me.
So, Bezos, it may be time for me to buzz-off, but I'll give you a while longer. After all, I don't have too much longer here on this self-destroying planet as well as my advanced age.
I dropped my subscription practically the first day Bezos owned it. I knew from social media sources Bezos was a lickspittle for the conservative cause. He's not "caught between a rock and a hard place", he IS a hard place! If he wanted to buck Trump he very well could, and it wouldn't cost him any customers. In fact, it might build Amazon to new heights!
I loved the Washington Post ever since I was a kid in the early ‘70’s. I finally cancelled my subscription after this past election. I miss that ritual of opening the paper and reading it in its entirety, but there is no way I’m going back to that organization. They have some really talented writers, but they also have a bunch of partisan hacks that I do not want to support. When they censored Ann Telnaes, that was the final straw for me.
As individuals we think “oh my small amount won’t move the needle,” but realistically, most of Bezos’ money is in stock. Collectively, when large groups stop patronizing his businesses, there will be negative impact.
When he started with the shenanigans, interfering with the news room and the opinion pages; I hung in there for a minute hoping the staff would find ways around the BS. And I like the puzzles page, if I must be honest. But now my subscription has run out and I will not be renewing until someone else takes over.
I canceled my subscription last December and have resisted the offers to renew even as they approached free. Not with glee, but with sadness. I wish that I could quit Amazon but don't have the cajones.
I'm in the same boat. I quit Wapo after 20 years because I figured my local PBS station could use the money better. Sadly, the day of the great newspapers may be sunsetting. I'm still hanging in there with the NYT for now but maybe looking for other sources moving forward.
I highly recommend The Christian Science Monitor—they are loyal to truthful journalism, not money or corporate advertisers. They even have no paywalls for the near future while they roll out some changes (including a new app in January).
Exactly why I’ve stopped ordering on Amazon

I think the Bozo's wedding was a sign of where his loyalties lie. It's with the money machine, same as Trump's.
Bozo!! Ha!! What a beautiful name!! Thanks.

"That’s just free markets and personal liberties at work." 😆 Sure is!
Thank you, Sarah. The billionaires have mostly all shown the god they serve. The god of Mammon is alive and well, and as deadly as ever.
