ICE raided my home when I was 5 years old and arrested my neighbor. Jimmy Carter was president..

Jimmy Carter left office on January 20, 1981, over 21 years before ICE came into existence in 2002. So whoever raided your home -- if that actually occurred -- it sure as hell wasn't ICE.

Does this mean you are horrified?

Just that it has been going on for 50 years under democrat presidents too. Personally I thought it was pretty exciting at the time

When you see how people are being wrongfully detained and injured I would expect you to be horrified. The great USA is not free and fair. You seem to be trying to find reasons why this is ok. Maybe you could think about it further and realise it is disgraceful for the US

No, I’m just curious as why now and never before in history?

The argument is not about raids in general. Without knowing why your home or your neighbor’s was raided it’s impossible to comment on it. What IS possible is knowing that in the past, the federal government has not typically gone around assaulting people for being nonwhite and not bothering to ask questions about their citizenship.

I don’t think it is ever good. Any time that people have been detained, particularly if it is aggressive, without due process should be seen as wrong.

Current administration is nothing like we've ever seen before. One extreme right wing party in control of everything, no checks & balances, everybody put in charge of agencies by Trump do whatever he wants regardless of whether legal or ethical. Trump wants to arrest or sue anybody who disagrees, he's a hateful greedy lying racist.

Not ignorant just aware of a world crisis of displacement due to all the patriarchal wars and the plight particularly of women and children fleeing for their lives. I have fought my own government since the 1960’s for immigration reforms which never were enacted under either party. It’s hard to fathom the utter stupidity of our antiquated laws and the biases they express. And our patch work approach to green cards and special status also requires more creativity. Something sorely lacking among politicians which is why this is such a horrendous mess.

This is beyond the pale for several reasons. ICE has no jurisdiction over citizens. Second, if they are in hindsight making allegations or charges, then by law, this citizen has civil rights and needed to be charged. That did not happen.

This can't happen in this country. The only thing that stands between us and being a banana republic is the Constitution and clearly his civil rights were violated. Reporting the federal government TO the federal government is not good enough. I would be so angry at this point, I would want to do some real damage. Sir, I thank you for your service to this country who pays you back like this. You deserve much better.

There were actions taken by American descendants of Japanese heritage to facilitate Japanese war against America and if you look into it the context is there and I was horrified before I learned the context and don't agree that it was necessary and massive treachery facilitated the war including an awareness of the Japanese incoming Pearl harbor attack to some degree.

George, what happened to you is wrong - plain and simple. I have never heard anyone explain why local law enforcement does not intervene and protect citizens. That is their job. Apparently this regime cares about no one or the law. I am sorry you had to experience this.

You might want to have them take photos on their phone of their citizenship documents too and put a copy in the Notes on her phone.

I don’t trust ICE not to potentially destroy the papers to protect themselves. They make a lot of mistakes because they’re not fully trained well regarding civil rights and protocol, and then try to cover them up. So having a backup copy on your phone in the Notes app is a good idea.

Your story is appalling and sadly one of many this is happening to. Your voice, position and actions would be important to someone in a high, respected position like Gavin Newson since this happened in California. Even a short interview with someone like Aaron Parnas would serve many in this anti-American action. Reach out to them. Elections are coming up, and immigration is a huge issue along with the economy and gun violence. @terrymoran @aaronparnas @gavinnewsom
