As the daughter of a Marine, I can't even begin to express the utter outrage that I feel towards Trump and the way he has treated, and continues to treat, our military. It's disgraceful.

It's insane man. Read Orwell's "1984" and weep like I do.

My father fought in the Pacific during World War II--I'm so glad he didn't live to see the decline, disgrace, and vanity characterizing Trump's presidency, He would have been heartsick. Victoria Van Slyke

True Americans, you and all who served, shouldn't need to demand respect/support. We all should be ashamed by our leadership when it comes to our VETs.

I honor your service, Alan, and appreciate your loyalty to our country's values, then and now! But a note to the editors: At age 68, Alan would have been born in 1957 - the article implies he deployed to Korea in 1953. Please clarify for future readers.

I had to read that again and realized that Alan was simply providing the date that the war ended. He didn't serve in the war, he served in the demilitarized zone, which has been manned since the end of the war. Maybe he should add the years he served there for clarification?

Thank you. Makes sense when you think about it, but I didn’t really put that together. My age cohort went to school 70s - 80s. Even in pretty good schools, US, European, and “Western Civilization” history classes ground to a halt at the end of WWII and not much of modern Asia made it in at all.

I was also confused by the dates being that I am Alan’s age and my great uncle served in the a Korean War. I went back and checked Alan’s writing and noted that he served in the DMZ and then I became more curious. Even if I was given information back in HS it was long gone from my memory. Watergate consumed my US History class in 1973. In my curiosity I came across this and others might appreciate it so I will share here.

“The ongoing violent struggle along the DMZ has taken the lives of many Americans, affected even more, and stands as an important aspect of U.S. Army history. This hazardous duty is often completed without the normal awards and recognition given to soldiers serving in other dangerous postings. There are no campaign streamers or parades, and there is limited and largely retroactive recognition of wartime service with combat patches and combat badges for DMZ conflict, but these omissions do not take away the truth behind the dangerous duty many American soldiers conducted in the years after the 1953 armistice in Korea.”*

Thank you Alan, one of our many BRAVE 😍 my best to you and yours! I appreciate what I have learned from you today. 🙏

Trump literally cares about no one but himself. And maybe other billionaires if they can make more money for him. I think personal wealth is the only thing he values, and the only thing he’s pursuing with his presidency. Why more people can’t see that I’ll never understand. The grifting is so obvious they’re not even trying to hide it anymore. He can’t stand veterans because he was too chicken to serve. But rather than admitting that openly and owning his own decisions, he feels better about himself by deriding others. It so pathetic.

Thank you for your service. My father in law was also there (on the front lines in Korea) in 1953; he passed two years ago at age 95. I suspect the writer is 98 years old today (2025), not 68.

When they call you a communist, tell them under communism the government “owns the means of production,” meaning the government owns corporations, and that’s not going to happen in America. No one in this country trusts the government to own the corporations and corporations are not going to let that happen.

Refute them. They don’t know what they’re talking about. Likely very few people would ever support our government owning corporations.

You can copy this to share with them, if you’d like.

Sorry you’re dealing with people like that. If you’re seeing it online in comments, you could ignore them and hide their comment (tap on it and choose “hide”) or you could copy and paste my comment and let them know most people in this country do not support communism, least of all you.

Peace

Thank you.

It galls me that just last week a Marine Vet from the Tet offensive lectured me for 20 minutes about how wonderful the current administration is, that the Marines are 100% behind them all, that the lunatic left are all Marxist Socialists.

Alan, thank you for your service. I am so sorry that veterans are facing such difficulties now and also disgusted that it's come to this. I'm very proud of the way you are willing to stand up for the truth and let people know about the difficulties veterans are facing under the current administration.

I value all our veterans, and I understand more why America fought Communism so hard since the Ukrainian invasion, learning more of what was really happening behind the Iron Curtain, which continues today. I love seeing veterans wearing their hats with pride. I don’t know what to say but always give them a smile. My ancestors fought for the freedom of this country and continued the fight through Vietnam (my father). My grandfather was a career Naval Officer until the mid 1970s. My son-in-law just left Air Force after 10 years, surprised as he was going to make it career. America wouldn’t be if it weren’t for our military and veterans. Thank you 🙏
