I am so sorry. What happened to you and your brother is deeply unjust. (My brother works for the IRS and is currently furloughed. My son is Autistic and come January 2026, will also lose access to services.)

I will be out there on October 18th for No Kings to march for you, my family and everyone that Trump has hurt with his atrocious policies.

Take care

My prayers may not help you, but they come from the heart. Meanwhile, may I say:

Now democracy dies in the dusk — nobody VOTED for Elon Musk!

My son was in the US Forest Service. The insanity was outrageous. He left for the private sector. His dream had been to serve in the FS. Their loss, sadly.

Agreed - their loss! That's exactly what I told my brother. Federal workers aren't there for the money, it's the mission. This administration doesn't understand the mission; they want to destroy it.

One has to wonder how many people are in the same boat of unemployment, uncertainty and fear as you? People who voted for that ass*hole. Have they woken up? Are they preaching it to everyone what a mistake they made? Are they turning support away from this Regime? I sure as hell would like to think so.

Emily I am so sorry for your hardship. I hope things will improve for you and your family. I know your worries for your son. I have a nephew who is autistic and depends on many government funded programs. I worry everyday which program will be taken away in the Trump Administration, I fear for all of us. This Administration has put America in danger of losing all our rights as Americans. Prayers to you and your family Emily. Prayers for all of us.

Sorry to hear about DOGE's attack on you.

Someone else (can't remember where) has said how people are too kind and generous when talking about Elon Musk.

DOGE was about stealing the data of US citizens - not about government efficiency - and his buying Twitter was a political influence operation not a business acquisition.

I am so sorry. TRump and Musk should be in jail instead of fucking update people’s lives. Musk may end up there anyway for vote buying in Wisconsin. No less than he deserves. But they will probably let him off with a fine.

ps the author only received assistance and medicaid because her STATE chose to actually help its inhabitants. in florida there is no medicaid for the unethical there’s really not even unemployment insurance for the unemployed.

It's true, thru all of this, I feel grateful and lucky to live in a blue state (except that it might be under martial law soon), but I have help for the time being.

Emily, thank you for sharing your story. I am sorry this is happening to you, your brother and your families. It is happening to so many others, and there seems to be nowhere in sight of change that is for the better - unless those who have the power decide to take charge and arrest the real enemies from within.

We all can help bring about a better way! Please, get yourself to your nearest No Kings Day event on October 18th. Check out the map on NoKings.org. If there isn't one close enough, gather a few friends and register your own event! People will come and you'll make new connections. No Kings will show you you are not alone! They are joyful and fun events.

This administration is all about muscle, but Trump & Miller are worried because they don't have public support. Help get Millions of Americans out in peaceful protest- by being one of them. Really, these are heartwarming events-- the reward for the ongoing work of organizing to crumble support for this fascist, absolutely anti-American regime.

Go to an event just for the signs. There are some great ones.

I went through a period of time where my spouse was struggling and he got fired. More than once. It is terrifying and gut wrenching. I worked, but Medicaid and food stamps were a life saver. On the very basic level, people need health care.

Trump and Musk never have experienced actual economic pain. I would say most of the minions never have either, or think latching on to Trump will make them invincible too.
